Helmet Painter Of The Month: September

AntmanCustomTrixEU & Helmet 28 are proud to announce that Kenneth Sturgeon from the UK is our September Helmet Painter Of The Month!

A little bit about our winner…

” I started out as a car paint sprayer and panel beater back in South Africa wheni was just 16 years old, straight out of school, so been involved in painting for 18 years now.

As my passion for painting grew whilst still racing motocross, I thought I’d try spray a few helmets for friends and it just become a form of paint work I loved to do more and more which then moved onto painting superbikes for insurance companies as well as race replicas for customers.

After immigrating to the Uk back in 2005, I had hoped to continue with this business over here but I just wasnt able to get set up till a couple years ago. Painting helmets and motorcycles under my own KSD custom paint logo Is a dream come true and has now become my full time job and really started to get busy.

Thanks to companies like yourselves, getting known has become a lot easier.

As KSD progresses I’d like to get more involved in the cars and karting scene as these guys go for crazy and busy designs that I’d love to be doing more of.

There is Nothing more satisfying than getting to see helmets I’ve done on live tv and in magazines. It’s a very rewarding career “.

Q&A with Kenneth Sturgeon of KSD Custom Paint

As part of our new Helmet Painter Of The Month Award format we get to sit down with the winner and ask them a few questions to see what makes these awesome artists tick!

1.What Helmet are you most proud of painting and why?

The the helmet I am most proud of that I have done so far is this AGV corsa for the superbike circuit that has been selected, similar design to one I did at the start of the year.

Why this one over the other?

I had needed to better my skills and was looking for better precision as there are so many amazingly talented painters around today, and thanks to some time spent with Piers Dowel from PDP, I feel after painting this AGV, I am there now.

2.Outside of painting what are your passions or hobbies?

Passions and hobbies are all related to motorsport for sure. As an ex motocross rider from South Africa I just can’t get away from that sport, I love everything about it, although never any time to ride anymore due to being surrounded by the 4 walls of the spraybooth and enjoying being a family man with the support of my lovely wife and business partner and my 3 children.

3.If you weren’t a helmet painter, what would you be doing?

If not for moving into painting helmets and motorcycles fulltime, I’d still be a painter in the automotive accident repair trade as that was my working passion before I felt I was ready for the custom painting scene.

4.What is your favourite helmet that someone else has painted?

Oh wow. This is a huge question, too many great ones out there to choose from.

A helmet that wowed me and really made me want to get into this full time and not just a hobby was this one from liquid colour design. I love the detail, precision and the coloured chromes. Quality is outstanding.

5. If you could work on one drivers’ helmet, past or present, who would you pick?

One driver I think I’d love to have seen wear a KSD helmet would have to have been Jenson Button for sure.

One driver I think I’d love to have seen wear a KSD helmet would have to have been Jenson Button for sure.

KSD for Jenson Buttons next helmet? This lid could do with some Neon Yellow TrimZ!
